Are We This Close To The End Of The Month???

Last week was beautiful!! The weather was completely amazing for January. So many bluebird days and when the temp would hit 40ish it really felt like low 60's. More than once, I way over dressed for the commuter bike. oooooops

RADIO SHOW: Two shows to cover this week!! First up, Mid Life Crisis on Tuesday for Mr Rip. I will be playing some old classic rock. The kind of show were you would think you were listening to commercial radio. Led Zep, The Doors, Boston, i.e. The Classics. The second show will be a demented show from 9pm - Midnight on Thursday night. Check them out at www dot kafmradio dot org
GoPro'd The Boy Dog

NEW CLIENTS:  I really began excepting the fact that I was going to be skunked this month. Then, SCORE, the little boy w/diabetes I wrote about, his father referred me to a guy who's son broke his ankle. Not sure about details just yet but we are meeting at the office Wednesday night. Super stoked!! The crazy part of this story was that the father called me at a time that I was in the middle of a thousand things and almost sent the call to voice mail. BUT in that Ortho world, my gut brain said," Dude, don't know the number. Better take it." I am ever glad that I did. Last weekend clients went very well. Had a women w/a knee pain problem and told me that she is soooooo over pain pills. She was an old client from massage days and we did our 1st Ortho session together. And did we ever have a break through. She not only felt her femur move but we HEARD her femur clunk into place. It was awesome!!! I then chased the " movement " out of her pelvis, through her spine, and finally out her neck. Working w/her neck took awhile and I almost became discouraged or impatient. Man, we were both so relieved and I never eluded to the fact that I felt stumped. Another client I saw had a low back issue which is way easy to clear up. Just calling up the psoas balanced her pelvic floor and the QL almost aways relaxes from there. Good Stuff AND Thank You Ortho

TRAINING: Training is going well. Sure, it could be better. I say that because I really am weak. Not worried but weak. A number of times I was like, " I will go with a little less weight here and hit 15 - 17 reps." By about 12 reps….. I was struggling. I have been doing the machines like the shoulder press, lat pull downs, one arm triceps, quad lifts, and the crunch machine. Didn't have any trouble w/backing off the weights and slowly putting in the3 sets of 15 reps. I really took my time with the curls and all the pull downs. Concentrating on the full SAFE range of motion. I do have a full week ahead of me w/clients, cleaning both gyms, swimming, road ride that might become an indoor trainer, working MAD Racing up at P-Horn, shopping for groceries on the commuter bike, an Ortho ( receiving ) w/Sheri, two radio shows to cover, and clients Tuesday, Wed, & Sunday.

So we are famous ( and legally ) for making our pets wear their dog tags. Shadow Boy has a whole collar of medals he has earned over the past 9+ years. It only just recently occurred to me that I should have one as well. I bring this yp because the post lady just dropped off my Road ID for my shoes. Now Shadow Boy & I are both labeled as I have thought about the WHAT IF: What if I went down while training?? I know that Shadow Boy would stay by me but then what. Off in an ambulance I go and what would happen to the Boy Dog??? For me, I have never seen anyone so excited to get up in the morning as Shadow Boy. Being a dog, his life is pretty routine to say he least. Run, eat, sleep, run,& eat and so on. But The Boy Dog bounds out of bed like there is no end to the wonderful possibilities that might be in store for the day. Dogs in general have an instinctual need to exercise every day; otherwise they become destructive and antisocial. I don't know if Shadow Boy treats training runs as a reward but he doesn't seem to question it. EVER. I have always told folks that Shadow is on a 3 to 1 when we train. He runs 3 miles to my every one as he repeatedly checks on me and then takes off again. The beauty behind the Boy Dog pushing me is that he never needs to stop off at our local watering hole for a cup of joe. Shadow Boy is always ready. When he becomes tired, he slimly lays down in an area that he just scratched up. And Shadow Boy will happily take a 10 min nap on the couch if he is tried. He always stretches out after a nap and is looking for the next adventure. Shadow Boy is always happy when I break out his water bowl and gives me that look like BEST DAY EVER. Shadow Boy knows that when we return, he gets to refuel first before me. I just love how dogs seem to have an inexhaustible and innate optimism towards life. Shadow has taught me so much by how routine he lives. Wake up happy, stretch often, rehydrate, eat with enthusiasm, and ease into a downward dog. Oh, and have wonderful puppy dreams!!!
This Is Pinto. Watched Him 4 The Wknd

And Ol Grandpa Smokey sure loved Pinto's bed!!! Gramps has his own bed in my room at the foot of my bed but he like the location of THIS bed. So I kinda rattled around there w/my thoughts. Where did this come from??? Well, thats easy. Some of the blogs I happened to catch over the weekend, I love looking at other bloggers photos, a number of you have been dealing with real live pet  pains from your pet's pain. http://pittbrownie.blogspot.com was dealing w/pet surgery and the after math of Anastasia. Then, Jamie at http://heatrunner.blogspot.com threw out a story that will make you cry. So dogs have been on my radar shall we say. My mind was all over the place during this post so thanx so much for staying w/me here. Now, I gotta get my happy A$$ off the computer and head downtown to lift. I will ride my commuter bike to the gym, strap on my Road ID, and live large. Dream Big Folks and Remember To Tell A Loved One WHY You Love Them. Cheers

Feeling Most Excellent

Telluride:
What an awesome Fire Festival!!! Telluride hosted the 1st Annual Fire Festival Last Weekend!! Friday Morning started of w/packing the car, meeting my my Biz ( MAD RACING ) partner, & a store run after remembering items in the cupboard. oooops!

And away we went!! Renee, The Blue Z, & I drove on down & then up to Telluride. Dallas Pass was gorgeous in deed with blue sky, fresh snow, & epic company in the car. Renee has a friend that allowed us to crash out at his place & easy access to the festival.

Friday night was an absolute blast!! Renee's friend Pam showed up & they were able to pal around & The Z & I hung out & socialized w/the artist. We kinda had an in because one of the featured artist was Jamie Vaida. Jamie lived here in GJ & we all go way back together. He even made the comment about how this event WILL happen again next year because its been a killer reunion for him.

Saturday went really well w/a relaxing morning, excellent home made breakfast, & a cup of joe in the sun. I threw together a veggie chili concoction in the crockpot for dinner. I love traveling w/my Crock & having dinner made a few hours later. Plus, the people that come & go are always blown away by the aroma in the room. The three of us were very fortunate to meet up w/Jamie around 4pm & help him move the art car to Main St & fire ( literally ) up the car. Back in December, I was involved w/firing the car up & knew what to expect, which played out well for us as the propane tank ran out. Jamie & I did a quick change out & the roof was back on fire!!! Way Cool!! Very Smooth & Jamie was quite thankful w/my timing. That was the main highlight of the night for me because all the artist & rich folk went to the evening gala that was $200 a tix. Not For Us??!!??

We did have a blast that night walking around & sipping on cocktails under a crystal clear night…. HINT HINT…. Saw the comet FINALLY!!! The late evening was star gazing, crazy 8's card game, & a game of cribbage. Fantastic way to end the weekend!!!

SnowShoeing:

Shadow Boy & I had the whole place to ourselves!! I quickly headed north off the main trail & was surprised by how deep the snow was. Shadow is really good about falling in behind me & lets me break trail for the both of us. I played it more of a out work & really engaged my hips, quads, & diaphragm for sure. I really felt strong for those first 6 steps…. HHHEEEeeeeeee

And the Boy Dog wanted everyone to see that he can break trail when he wants to!!! And damn if he ever is so strong for a 9 year old.

I was getting worked!! My lungs were on fire!!! But I felt Gr8 & The Boy Dog was stoked!!!

I spaced on sunblock so I wore my light hoodie as much as I could. The problem was that I was getting a little overheated. I was also a little to in my head & trying to process some family dynamics. Which I have no control over. But I sure love being out in the open w/The Boy Dog.

We hiked for an hour and 17 min without seeing a soul. Plus, I could feel all the different muscle groups that were effected which totally stokes me out. Its Gr8 breaking up routines!!!

Clients:
The month isn't over yet but I have not picked up a new client. I have been working & enjoying watching clients have break throughs. I am still working w/my double to-2-be hip replacement client at the pool. I had a very successful day today w/my clients & one has been w/me from back in my massage schooling days. She has been having some knee stuff going on so I balanced her pelvis & talked w/her ankles & feet. She was way into the Ortho & couldn't believe that I was working her w/o pain, unlike a neuromuscular session we have done in the past. But there are a few more days to this month so we will see if a new face shows up in the office. I felt optimistic about it, that door will open when it needs to, right?!?!?!

Training:
Training for the Silverton Marathon has been going just as planed. A lot of slow & controlled core work, no excuse loops w/the Boy Dog everyday, & then the snowshoeing. At first, I thought I was really bummed out because of the beers & spirits in T-Ride BUT its what I kinda needed. A break from training for a weekend. I still ate well ( Renee & I both brought a ton of food ) & stretched out a lot. I didn't bring my foam roller but relaxed into my stretches & felt pretty good. I probably looked goofy as hell but some of our walks around town I would lunge into my stride & did some calf raises on the curb while talking w/others. That kinda goofy stuff.

I am heading into Crossroads Downtown tomorrow w/pen & paper to start lifting again. Totally looking forward to lifting weights again & targeting different muscle groups. I am planing on slow & controlled & injury free. My plan is to use a much lighter weight & reps of 15-20. CONTROLLED!! Pretty sure I will just go station to station to build a schedule & chart me numbers. Then, start back w/free weights when I am stronger & can control the weights independently.

If our weather continues to be this nice, Ol' Midnight might see some pavement. I am still on the commuter bike to the office, gym, & grocery store. But a road ride could treat me well. Maybe even a Mt Bike Ride?!?!?! Hold On Turbo

Radio Show:
This Thursday the 22nd I have a radio show. I am thinking that I am going w/more Jam Bands this time around. Maybe, I was thinking of playing an original by the artist into a cover tune. These will all be from live shows of coarse. Ether way, its going to be awesome. Feel free to stream live at www dot kafmradio dot org from 6:30pm - 9pm mountain time zone.

Goals:
My "big" goal is to have a conversation w/my mom w/eye opening results. Thats a big one for sure. I have a pretty good idea of how I am going to approach this. We will see. Other goals will be at the gym, have a kick A$$ radio show, schedule a meeting w/Footprints Animal Hospital, make phone calls & follow up MAD Racing phone calls, & hit the Mesa one more time before the weekend w/the The Boy Dog. I did achieve a Meatless Monday goal today. It was a kale, black eye pea, recipe from my cooking light magazine. Shadow Boy wasn't all that impressed because he didn't get to try it & wondered why the BBQ was fired up. "Ah Sh*T!" He says

Monday Monday ( Sing It Like The Song )

The whole week before Christmas was outstanding!! Working w/my cadence has been rewarding & I am feeling much quicker in my turn over. The whole week during the holidays totally rocked!! Shadow Boy & I were on 2-a-days that whole week. We had some light snow, just over an inch of the white stuff. I was also walking Ol' Grandpa Smokes & he was stoked. He wasn't to sure about walking in the middle of the street & he didn't necessarily care for the street as he would give me that Lab look like," Human, can't you smell that tree truck?" But then when we crossed over 12th St, he was wide eyed!! He had no idea that the street continued. From then on, he smelled w/deeper breaths, trotted w/pep in his step, & calmed down from the pulling on the leash. Lets just say that he would walk back into the house & gulp down some H20 & then damn near collapse on the living room floor. Don't be fooled here, he still tracked me w/one eye just in case I opened the treat can. Ol Smokey thinks life is pretty good & he has only been here for a year now. So just before the New Year, life became very busy again. Loads of hustle & bustle for sure. The damn TV was back on & the dragon was blowing more smoke.
MAD Racing is taking off!! Mountain And Desert Racing!!! John & I have set the schedule for 2015 & it looks pretty damn sweet. The Rumble at 18rd will be our 1st real big race on April 18th & 19th 2015 & registration begin at 8pm tonight!!! Saturday the 18th of April will begin w/a 3.5 mile trail run, 7 mile trail run, & 11 mile trail run. The rest of the day will be filled with 20min Short Track Racing starting w/the Youth, Juniors, & then on to the ALL Open Classifications. The Pro race will start at 2PM.
Sunday the 19th of April will be all of the Cross Country MTB Races on 18Rd in Fruita Colorado!!! The Rumble At 18RD will be outstanding & I am so pleased by how everything is falling into place. And are you ready for this…… All Trail Runs are only $19 before 3-31-2015, $24 after that date, & $29 for Day Of Sign Ups. The Short Tack IS the same pricing break down!!! Thats Right, Only $19 to race in Fruita!!! And on Sunday, $29 for the JR Cross Country Race, JR Cat 2 & 3 Pro Cat 1 & 2 will ALL be $39, & the Pro Open will be $49. Add 10 bucks after 3-31-2015 & 20 smackers for day of Reg.
Please access all of this info PLUS course maps, time break downs, etc on the Mad Racing site. http://www.madracingcolorado.com

And in my own world of racing in 2015, little worried about how the 1/2 will work out in March. The Canyonlands Half Marathon will take place on the 21st of March & then I start my residential on the 22nd. Sounds good right??? So here is my dilemma…. Do I run Saturday & camp in the car until Sunday's check in?? If I choose that option, what do I do w/an extra week of food?? More Coolers??? Or do I run Saturday, Drive Saturday, Pack Up Sunday, & Drive Back to Moab,UT??? How much will that cost??? My other hang up is this….. I will have to leave here by X time to make the shuttle at 7:30am on Saturday. This event still has me hung up. My other thought, to stay true to my training schedule, ride my bike & lay out a course here in GJ & run it on Saturday the 21st. This plan is becoming more appealing because I can add some trail running as well. All of this is coming into play for the Silverton Marathon August 22rd & the bigger picture of a Sub 4hr Lead King 25K race in September. Oh, and sprinkle in all of the MAD Racing events.

A highlight of 2014, besides for the Lead King 25K, besides the rescuing of Grandpa Smokers, would be the amazing amount referral clients!!! While I was only doing massage & neuromuscular body work I had to bust my A$$ to build a cliental. And Now….. Totally blown away by how I can work w/just one client & 2 others will call!!! My biggest accomplishment so far has been working w/a boy w/diabetes. Not only am I now working w/the whole family BUT he has HARD DATA to back up the Ortho work. This little boy has an insulin pump that gives wireless data to his mothers "phone" thing. Just before X-Mas I was explaining how Ortho WILL NOT CURE his diabetes but I know Ortho will help somehow. After our last session the mom told me that his pump didn't have to produce any insulin for ALMOST A FULL 48hrs!!! This little boy is now becoming my poster child because we have the raw data rather than me just saying ORTHO WORKS. Its not my ego, its not words in a book, but real data!!! Its totally awesome!!!

That being said…. I have some real big intentions for 2015. I mean, I already foam roll daily, love the perfect push ups, building a successful practice, ride the rubber off my commuter bike, daily outings w/the Boy Dog, radio shows, & speaking my truth. So I don't feel like I have to set goals or new years resolutions because I am already living those "dreams" to the fullest.

My morning routine usually starts w/light stretching, foam rolling, & breakfast w/both dogs. Shadow & I usually take off on our no excuse loop. We come back & I do my core work, foam rolling, & push ups. I check the tires, brakes, & seat post on the commuter & then head out. The afternoon is when I visit my training plan & then I get after it or the Boy Dog & I get after it depending on where I am on the scheduled event of that day. Mr Dave is back at the LetterPress so I am no longer running the Heidelberg Cylinder Press, I only have the floor tile to set down at Orval's Boarding & Grooming, & this frees me up to build miles & clients!!! I didn't realize how much energy it took out of me working 3 jobs, training for the Lead King, & completing my two year practitioners training in Ortho-Bionomy. I would love to ask," What will I do w/all my free time?" But we know that really isn't the case. MAD Racing, Building My Practice, & Training will become more than a full time job!! And that is beautiful!!!

My Brother, myself, & maybe both of his daughters are leaving for Sc-A-Tomatoes California this Friday. Oh Joy, another road trip on 50. Not really looking forward to the 15 hour drive across Ut, Nv, & Ca but its what you do when you lose a loved one. My Grandfather (94yrs) passed back in Nov & the memorial will be held this Saturday. Once I am in Sacramento it will be a blast but the drive simply doesn't turn me on. But it will be Gr8 to see all my cousins, antis, & uncles again. Plus, all of my moms cousins that I haven't seen or heard from in many moons!!! Photos…. Like Tons Of Photos…. Coming Soon
Thanx so much for stopping by, for taking the time to read, for supporting my radio shows, for the encouragement, for the inspiration & more importantly, THANX 4 BEING YOU!!!!!
